A nine-month-old girl was referred to her local paediatric hospital painless right-sided, post-auricular swelling increasing in size preceding two months. On examination there 2x2cm mass overlying bone posterior right ear. The firm, immobile, non-tender and well circumscribed. Ultrasound demonstrated 1.9cm subcuticular evidence intracranial extension through suture. Vascular flow hyperechoic foci were within lesion. team requested magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) computed tomography (CT) prior referral tertiary care centre. Imaging displayed 2cm expansile lesion cortical loss effacement underlying dural venous sinus. patient proceeded incisional biopsy for tissue diagnosis which suggestive cranial fasciitis. Following discussion at regional multidisciplinary meeting, she underwent surgical excision joint Neurosurgery/Otology case. fully resected macroscopically, normal surrounding mastoid air cells preserved. This demonstrates that may an otolaryngologist importance diagnosis, management.

Cranial Fasciitis of Childhood with Underlying Solid Aneurysmal Bone Cyst of Temporal Bone

Cranial fasciitis is a rare variant of pseudosarcomatous fibroblastic/myofibroblastic proliferation, seen almost exclusively in children. Most cases are idiopathic, though in some a history of trauma has been elucidated. Cases of suspected cranial fasciitis must be worked up radiologically to rule out intracranial extension. We present a case of cranial fasciitis in a ten-year old girl that sho...

Cranial fasciitis of childhood.

Cranial fasciitis is a benign fibroblastic tumor of the skull found almost exclusively in young children. It is histologically identical to nodular fasciitis. We present the clinical, radiologic, and pathologic findings of a 7-month-old male infant with cranial fasciitis of the skull. Herein, we include the first description of this entity's diffusion-weighted imaging appearance. Although rare,...

The Mechanical Properties Cranial Bone

Linear and depressed skull fractures are frequent mechanisms of head injury and are often associated with traumatic brain injury. Accurate knowledge of the fracture of cranial bone can provide insight into the prevention of skull fracture injuries. A set of cranial bone specimens were extracted from 8 crania and, after !CT imaging, the specimens were tested in a three-point bend set-up at dynam...

CT of the temporal bone in a patient with osteopathia striata and cranial sclerosis.

The authors present a case of congenital dysplasia affecting the long bones, skull, and other systems in a 7-year-old girl, with special attention to CT of the temporal bone, which showed abnormal ossicle fixation, a narrowed Eustachian canal, thickened sclerotic bone, and a small mastoid antrum and middle ear cavity. CT of the temporal bone can help one distinguish the etiologies of hearing lo...

The controversy of cranial bone motion.

Cranial bone motion continues to stimulate controversy. This controversy affects the general acceptance of some intervention methods used by physical therapists, namely, cranial osteopathic and craniosacral therapy techniques. Core to these intervention techniques is the belief that cranial bone mobility provides a compliant system where somatic dysfunction can occur and therapeutic techniques ...
